Just when you think it’s all about the papaya, a certain red team comes out and dominates the race to give themselves a whiff at Constructors glory. But will that be reflected in the power rankings?
Before we get to that, it’s disclaimer time. If you’ve read these before, you know the drill. These are all subjective and based mainly on my (incredibly smart) opinion mixed with form and on-track results, meaning it is a generally subjective list that holds no real weight except for the large basis of fact I like to think I can generate.
So with all that in mind, let’s get to the rankings.
10. Kick Sauber (-)
Only five more races remain for the team to try and scrape a point and not end up with a scoreless campaign. Based on their performance in Austin, it does not look likely to happen.
9. Alpine (-1)
Tried to make their car look like a McLaren with their weird Indiana Jones livery in Austin. Sadly, it didn’t perform like one, and the team failed to make much of an impact outside a couple of quick laps here and there that did also net them the fastest lap during the race.
8. Aston Martin (-1)
Were Aston Martin even in Austin? They barely rated a mention in any of the sessions or races, and besides Fernando Alonso getting into a bit of a silly scuffle with Liam Lawson, there really was nothing to write home about them in Texas.

7. Williams (-1)
I feel bad dropping them a spot given they scored a point but that really came down to the performance of Franco Colapinto rather than the car itself. Colapinto was a man possessed all weekend and thoroughly deserved his point, while Alex Albon celebrated his 100th race in less than ideal fashion by not looking super at home in Austin. Still, the car is looking somewhat decent and they should have enough in the bag to hold on to eighth for the remainder of the year in the Championship.
6. RB (+3)
Vaulting them up the order by three spots seems a lot, but it was a pretty good weekend for the team overall. Yuki Tsunoda very well should’ve been in the points had it not been for his indiscretions and spins in the race, while Liam Lawson shone on Sunday by going from last to ninth in his return to the sport. There were other flashes across the weekend for the team who are in the fight of their lives right now for sixth in the Championship against Haas. A battle to keep an eye on for the rest of 2024.
5. Mercedes (-1)
What looked likely to be a solid weekend for the team after George Russell nearly took sprint pole on Friday turned into a nightmare after Lewis Hamilton was eliminated in Q1 and Russell found the wall in Q3. Hamilton’s race lasted barely three laps, while Russell was able to get some points after a strong drive on Sunday. However, it was a weekend to forget for the team who will be hoping for some better fortunes in Mexico this weekend.
4. Haas (+1)
Double points in the sprint, points in the main race, and four races in a row the team has scored points. This is a team that people said at the beginning of the year wouldn’t even score any points and finish dead last. It has been an incredible year for the American team who continue to punch well above their weight.

3. Red Bull (-)
Max Verstappen was on fire all weekend, it’s just a shame his teammate wasn’t. And once again that cost them big time. They no longer need worry about the Constructors’ Championship, they have to start worrying about dropping to third in the Championship, something which is inevitable. With Lawson and Tsunoda putting in solid performance in Austin, that ticking clock just keeps getting louder for Perez.
2. McLaren (-1)
The fight for their first Constructors’ Championship since 1998 looks set to come down to the wire against their arch enemy in Ferrari who they beat that same year to secure the title. Red Bull are a one-man team, while Ferrari are a two-man team. That means that as long as Norris and Piastri keep going strong against Leclerc and Sainz, this fight is set to get closer and closer the more we get towards the end of the year.
1. Ferrari (+1)
48 points behind McLaren now in the Constructors’ Championship with only five rounds remaining. For every Ferrari fan, they are dreaming a dream right now that hasn’t been possible since 2008. Can it happen? Will it happen? Continue this form, and dreams may just come true.
