Sport wrap: Archery achieve record performance

Both Aussie archers took it up to strong opposition in Paris, with a new record added to a solid campaign at the spectacular Esplanade des Invalides.

Laura Paeglis started her Olympic campaign in style, setting the highest score by an Australian woman in Olympic Archery in nearly 30 years in the Women’s Individual ranking round.

Her score of 640 was the highest score since the current 72 arrow ranking round format began at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

Laura took the momentum from her record-breaking score into the elimination round, where she fell just short of a stunning first round upset, losing in the final set to Caroline Lopez of France.

Sydney archer Peter Boukouvalas gave it his all in the Men’s Individual Archery competition, bowing out in the first elimination round against Korean world number three Lee Wooseok.

Peter was proud of his performance and relished his opportunity to go up against one of the world’s best archers.

In the mixed team event, Laura and Peter were unable to progress to the elimination stage after finishing 26th in the ranking round.
