Round 12 F1 driver power rankings: Is Hamilton’s win enough to propel him in the rankings?

A sixth different winner in F1 for 2024 means the driver power rankings are set to get even more interesting.

Before we find out just how interesting, let’s get the disclaimer over and done with. You know the drill, these are all subjective and based mainly on my (incredibly smart) opinion mixed with form and on-track results, meaning it is a generally subjective list that holds no real weight except for the large basis of fact I like to think I can generate.

So with that in mind, let’s get to the rankings.

10. Charles Leclerc (-1)

A gamble on the inters early on in the race screwed him over, and he was never able to recover. Missing out on Q3 also was a dampener on his weekend. Just remains in the top ten based purely on the fact that there are no other drivers that warrant being in it.

9. Fernando Alonso (new)

Great to see Aston move up the field a bit with a bit of pace, and great to see Alonso back in the points. Outclassed by his teammate all weekend though, which means he can’t be any higher than ninth.

8. Lance Stroll (new)

Once again nobody talks about Lance in another strong weekend by him. Out qualified and outpaced his teammate all weekend, he managed to finish seventh in the race and ahead of Alonso after staying out of trouble and managing the tricky conditions well.

7. Carlos Sainz (+1)

It’s odd to move him up a spot given he was so invisible all weekend. But an invisible weekend that brought home a solid fifth place in a car that is dropping back significantly each weekend is a solid enough result to move him up slightly.

6. Nico Hulkenberg (+1)

A stunning weekend for Nico, who really is in the conversation for driver of the season right now. If it wasn’t for the form of those ahead of him, he very much would be in the top five. Still time to make that happen Nico.

5. Oscar Piastri (-)

Once again another race in which Piastri very much could’ve won. And again, it came down to McLaren seemingly working against him. A real shame, but a strong weekend all the same. The win will come. Just wait.

4. George Russell (-1)

Feels harsh to drop him a spot after such a strong weekend, but when you retire from the race and your teammate wins, you don’t really have any other option for him.

3. Lewis Hamilton (+1)

The drought is over! Lewis finally gets a win after 57 races. Incredible to think it has been that long since he last stood on the top step of the podium. Bravo.

2. Max Verstappen (-)

Drove a masterful race in which he very much could’ve won it had there been a few more laps. Continues to showcase that right now it’s the driver more than the car that is keeping him on top of the Championship.

1. Lando Norris (-)

Another race in which Lando very much could’ve, and should’ve won. As frustrating as that is becoming for him and his fans, it also showcases that he is clearly the number one form driver in the sport right now.

What do you think of this list? Which order would you currently rank the drivers in? Let me know your thoughts below!
