Sydney archer Peter Boukouvalas gave it his all in the Men’s Individual Archery competition but bowed out in the first elimination round against Korean world number three Lee Wooseok.
Making his Olympic debut at the Esplanade des Invalides, Peter recovered from a seven on his first arrow to fire a nine and a 10 to lose the first set to Lee by only three points.
A strong start in the second set with a 10 and a nine saw Peter level on points with the Korean, before only managing a seven on his last arrow to drop the set by two points.
Despite a strong third set, where Peter fired two nines and a 10, he was unable to overcome Lee, with the 25-year-old falling short by a point to end his Olympic campaign in a 6-0 defeat.
Peter was proud of his performance and relished his opportunity to go up against one of the world’s best archers.
“I've taken so much away from this that I've learned to apply to my future practice of archery,” he said.
“Just being able to share the field with him and shoot with him was an incredible experience in itself. He is an amazing competitor.”
Peter will now cheer on teammate Laura Paeglis, who will take to the range in the Women’s Individual competition.
In the individual ranking round last week, the 22-year-old set the highest score by an Australian woman in Olympic Archery since the current 72 arrow-ranking round format began at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics with a score of 640.
She faces Caroline Lopez from France in the 1/32 knockout round at 11.56pm AEST.
